Clown photo shoot for SmugMug
Clown photo shoot for SmugMug –
Clown photo for SmugMug, Magic Circus clowns Benny & Bebe were featured in a recent photo shoot for SmugMug. It can be seen on their website below their new video.
We had a lot of fun sitting on a Harley Davidson motorbike in full clown gear and our sparkly costumes as hundreds of pink and blue balls showered over us. Bebe protected us with her rainbow umbrella, so we would not blink when the balls were released.

Clown photo for SmugMug – this fabulous photo is for sure again a positive portrayal of the clown character. It reminds us that it is always good to find the humor and fun in live.
Through history there have always been men and women who have had the ability to make others laugh. Clowns, comedians and jesters – sometimes they are laughing at themselves, sometimes they are laughing at the audience – sometimes they say the truth and hold a mirror towards society.
Best of all they teach us not to take oneself too seriously.
In recent years we found that the traditional full face make up for the clown character works great when we perform for a large audience like in the circus. For more close up performances and smaller crowds the make up does not need to be so strong and read so big. When you see the skin color show with the make up, it makes the clown character much more child friendly. Specially for the very young children we wear very little make up.
Major clown organizations recognize three types of clowns for their competitions. They are White face, Auguste and Tramp. For costume competition, they include a fourth category, character clown.
The “white face clown” is derived from the Pierrot character. His makeup is white, usually with facial features such as eyebrows emphasized in black. He is often dressed in a sparkly tight fitted costume and he acts as the more intelligent and sophisticated clown, contrasting with the silly or witty Auguste type.
This is similar to comedy duos with a straight man and the comedian.
