School magic show featuring
Performing-, Magic & Circus Arts

This summer we performed the Magic Circus Show at Bay Area summer schools and camps for enthusiastic audiences, ages 5 – 14.

When we perform, we deliver the lines from the script and interact with good acting skills with each other and the audience. We have to be in the moment and one step ahead of the audience to execute the magic and stunts. Magic wands are used for misdirection or to emphasize a special moment. We use many different sized and shaped wands for our theatrical comedy vignettes in our school magic show.

Penn & Teller say about magic:
In magic, the performer and the audience share an understanding: feats that appear to be real are actually optical illusions. When executed properly, all magic, deceives observers, tricking them into believing what they see. Magicians pull this off using the art of misdirection.

What Is Misdirection in Magic?

Misdirection—is the subtle, deceptive art of directing an audience’s attention towards one thing (a magical effect) so it does not notice another (the method or mechanics of a trick). It can refer to both the effect of a spectator’s mind being focused on an unimportant thing, or the action that causes it.

The Science of Magic

  •  Secret actions (sleight of hand)
  • Hidden mechanics (gimmicks)
  • Psychology (misdirection)
  • Laws of nature (physical and formal sciences)
  • The Science of Magic featuring the Psychology of Magic Exhibit was very inspiring to us at our last trip to London.
The Science of Magic Association (SoMA) promotes rigorous research directed toward understanding the nature, function, and underlying mechanisms of magic. https://scienceofmagicassoc.org/
